ALU
Aluminum Association
The Aluminum Association represents aluminum production and jobs in the United States, ranging from primary production to value added products to recycling, as well as suppliers to the industry. The association is the industry’s leading voice, representing companies that make 70% of the aluminum and aluminum products shipped in North America. Based in the Washington, D.C. area, the association is the U.S. industry's leading voice — developing global standards, business intelligence, sustainability research and industry expertise for member companies, policymakers and the general public.
CMI
Can Manufacturers Institute
The Can Manufacturers Institute (CMI) is the national trade association of the metal can manufacturing industry and its suppliers in the United States. The can industry accounts for the annual domestic production of approximately 131.6 billion food, beverage, aerosol and general line cans; employs more than 28,000 people with plants in 33 states, Puerto Rico and American Samoa; and generates about $15.7 billion in direct economic activity. CMI is committed to fostering the prosperity of the industry and bringing value to its members in a cost effective way. We do this by promoting the can and communicating its many benefits to our customers, consumers, the media and trade analysts. CMI assumes many roles to meet the industry’s needs. On both the national and state level, CMI actively participates in the exchange of ideas influencing legislative, regulatory and administrative policies of interest to can makers. CMI has also conducted and sponsored several innovative studies that led to promotional campaigns seeking larger market share for the can. CMI provides a statistical service by publishing monthly and annual shipment reports by product and marketing category and serves as the industry’s technical forum.
IAI
International Aluminum Institute
The International Aluminium Institute (IAI) is the only body representing the global primary aluminium industry. The IAI was established in 1972. Current IAI membership includes global bauxite, alumina and aluminium companies in all the major producing regions. IAI member companies are engaged in the production of bauxite, alumina, aluminium, the recycling of aluminium, or fabrication of aluminium or as joint venture partners in such. While the Institute works closely with the national and regional aluminium associations, with which it shares many members, the associations themselves are not members of the IAI. Through the IAI, the aluminium industry aims to promote a wider understanding of its activities and to demonstrate both its responsibility in producing the metal and the potential benefits to be realised through its use in sustainable applications and recycling. Aluminium producing companies are eligible for IAI membership, which brings benefits including access to performance benchmarking data and industry trend modelling as well as the opportunity to lead and engage in global industry initiatives on issues of common interest. The work of the IAI is overseen by its Board of Directors, with each member company having a representative at senior management level, usually the chairman or CEO. The Board of Directors meets twice a year, with all members entitled to vote and representation at the Annual General Meeting.
