Bodymaker Progression: Turning a Cup into a Straight-Walled Can
This video explains the Bodymaker Progression, which outlines the steps involved in transforming a cup into a straight-walled can inside the Bodymaker.
The process begins as cups are fed into the Bodymaker. The first stage involves the Redraw Die, which reduces the cup’s diameter to the final size of the can.
Next, a series of Ironing Dies thin the can’s walls, making the can taller as the metal is stretched and shaped.
Finally, the Bottom Former (or Domer) forms the dome at the base of the can, completing the main body-shaping process.
After leaving the Bodymaker, the can is directed to the Trimmer, a machine often located near or connected to the Bodymaker, where the jagged top edge is trimmed to create a smooth, even finish.
