The dies are housed in Die Holders, which are slightly larger than the dies themselves. This design allows the dies to "float" slightly, aligning themselves with the center of the Punch as it moves through the Tool Pack. This alignment ensures smooth metal forming and prevents defects during the process.

The Tool Pack is installed in the Bodymaker as a single set and operates based on a Progression Chart. The chart ensures the correct percentage of reduction at each stage, maintaining precise control over the can’s dimensions.


Redraw Stage:
The cup is first drawn through the Redraw Die, resizing it to the final diameter of the can.


Ironing Stages:
After resizing, the can passes through the three Ironing Dies. These dies progressively thin the can walls while increasing the can’s height. Each die applies a specific level of reduction to achieve the desired wall thickness and overall can height.
