Cup Conveying: Key Factors for Success in the Bodymaker
This video, made in collaboration with Sirack Yohannes of Clever Can Solutions, highlights various factors of Cup Conveying that are crucial for ensuring success in the Bodymaker.
Cup conveying plays a significant role in the overall performance of the Bodymaker. After the cups are formed, they fly out of the Cupper, and any damage to the heel of the cup at this stage can result in Bodymaker tear-offs.
Proper alignment of the Cup Chutes (located at the Cupper discharge) and the Cup Table is critical to prevent cup damage. The first turn or redirection of the cups, as they exit the Cupper, is particularly important in avoiding collisions that could damage the cups.
Keeping the cup conveyors clean is essential. Contamination on the surface of the cups can lead to Bodymaker tear-offs, impacting the production process.
As cups are gravity-fed into the Bodymaker, they must be properly shingled to ensure a smooth, free-flowing stream. A full cup drop provides the necessary pressure to feed cups into the Bodymaker at high speeds, maintaining efficiency in the production line.
