Decorator Overview

This video explains the Decorator, the machine responsible for printing a multi-color image (typically a label) onto cans during the can manufacturing process. The Decorator ensures that each can receives a precise, high-quality printed image before moving to the next stage of production.

Overview of the Printing Process

1) Feeding Cans into the Decorator
Cans are transported into the Decorator using an Air Tunnel Track, which maintains a steady and controlled flow.

2) Loading Cans onto Mandrels
Vacuum
is used to load cans onto mandrels, which hold them in place for printing.

3) Multi-Color Label Formation
  • The label design is made up of multiple colors, each applied separately using inkers.
  • The inkers transfer color onto printing blankets.

4) Transferring the Image onto the Can
The printing blanket transfers the fully assembled image onto the can’s surface, completing the printing process.

5) Applying Over Varnish for Protection
Once the label is printed, an Over Varnish (OV) coating is applied. This protective layer prevents scuffing, and wear during handling and transportation.

6) Pin Chain Conveying to the Next Stage
The printed cans are transferred onto a pin chain, which moves them to the Pin Oven, where the ink and varnish are cured.
