This video explains the role of Dunnage in securing and protecting cans during shipment. Dunnage consists of various packaging materials that stabilize and safeguard palletized cans, ensuring they arrive at their destination undamaged.

1) Pallets – The Foundation of Can Shipments
Pallets serve as the base structure for stacking and transporting cans. They provide stability and allow forklifts to move large quantities efficiently.

2) Layer Pads – Separating and Stabilizing Layers
Layer Pads (also known as separator sheets or tier sheets) are placed between each layer of cans. They help distribute weight evenly and prevent cans from shifting or toppling during transport.


3) Top Frames – Adding Rigidity
Top Frames are placed on the uppermost layer of the palletized cans. These frames add structural rigidity, preventing the cans from collapsing inward when strapped or stacked.


4) Strapping – Securing and Unitizing the Load
Strapping tightly secures the pallet, layer pads, and top frame together, ensuring that the entire unit remains stable and intact during handling and shipping. This process is also referred to as unitizing.


5) Stretch Wrap – Additional Protection in Certain Environments
In dusty or corrosive environments, stretch wrap may be applied to further protect the palletized cans from contamination. This added layer prevents external particles from affecting the cans before they reach the customer.
