Trimmed Can Height: Importance in Quality Control

This video, created in collaboration with Torus, explains the significance of measuring Trimmed Can Height in the quality control process of can manufacturing.

The Trimmer determines the Trimmed Can Height, which is then measured during the quality inspection process. But why is this measurement so important?

The Flange of the can, which is essential for attaching the lid (or end), is formed in the Necker. If the Trimmed Can Height is too short, it results in a narrow flange width. Conversely, a tall Trimmed Can Height creates a wide flange width.

Both of these variations can cause issues at the Filler, where the can is filled with product and the lid is seamed to the can. Ensuring the correct Trimmed Can Height is critical to prevent problems during this final step in the production process.
