Overview of the Trimming Operation in Can Manufacturing

This video provides an overview of the Trimmer and its key operations in cutting the top edge of cans.

The Trimmer Cartridge plays a central role, closing the knives to ensure precise, consistent cutting. The Turret activates the Trimmer Cartridge, enabling the knives to close for cutting and then releasing to separate them once the cut is complete.

As the knives apply pressure, they shear the can’s side wall, creating the trim ring. The Spindle Assembly secures the can, assists with rotation, and aids in the trimming process.

Cans are loaded onto a vacuum chuck where the side wall is cut. After the trimming is completed, the spindle retracts. Both the can and the trim ring are then discharged from the Trimmer, with the trim ring heading toward recycling.
