Web Scrap Removal in Shell Press Operations
This video explains how web scrap is removed from the Shell Press in beverage end manufacturing.
In this process, circular blanks are punched out of the aluminum coil to form shells. What remains after blanking is called web scrap — the leftover aluminum between the cutouts. This scrap must be continuously removed to maintain efficient production and prevent buildup inside the Shell Press.
To do this, the Shell Press shears the coil at the end of every downward stroke. The sheared web scrap drops into the Scrap Hood at the rear of the press. From there, vacuum suction pulls the scrap through ductwork that transports it to the Baler Room. In the Baler Room, the scrap is eventually compressed into bales for recycling.
