The Palletizer

In this video, we talk about the palletizer, an important machine at the end of the can manufacturing process.

After leaving the necker, the cans reach the second level and begin their journey to the palletizer. The primary job of the palletizer is to stack multiple layers of cans and prepare them for shipment to the customer.

Cans enter the palletizer area on mechanical conveyors, moving onto an air table before going through the laner (or pattern former). The air table allows the cans to move freely, producing a void-free layer of cans.

Each pallet of cans starts with a pallet that is inserted into the hoist well. A layer pad (also called a separator sheet) is placed on the pallet, and then a layer of cans is swept onto the pallet before it is lowered one level. After being lowered, a layer pad is applied to the top layer of cans. This process continues until the pallet is complete.

Once the pallet is fully stacked, it is lowered down the hoist well and transported away on chain conveying.
