Why are Vacuum Pumps Needed in Can Manufacturing?

This video explores the critical uses of vacuum pumps in can manufacturing.

Key Applications of Vacuum Pumps in Can Manufacturing

Trimmer: In the Trimmer, vacuum is used to hold each can by its dome. This secure hold keeps the can steady as the jagged edge is trimmed, ensuring a uniform height and smooth top edge.

Decorator: Vacuum secures cans onto the mandrel in the Decorator, stabilizing them during high-speed printing. This hold is crucial for applying precise, multi-color labels as the cans rotate on the mandrel.

Deco Transfer: At the Deco Transfer, vacuum grips the can by the dome, allowing for smooth transfer onto the Pin Chain conveyor without tipping or slipping.

Spray Machine: Vacuum is used once again to hold each can by the dome during internal spray coating. This steady positioning ensures a uniform layer of protective coating is applied to the interior, critical for maintaining product quality.

Necker Transfer Turrets: In the Necker, vacuum assists in securely holding cans as they are transferred between turrets. This hold supports consistent alignment, essential for the necking process.

Necking Process: During necking, vacuum holds the dome of the can in place. This stability allows precise shaping of the neck, creating the familiar tapered top without deformation.
